Sunshine, champagne, and one beaming bride :)

You know that movie with Katherine Heigel, 27 Dresses? Well, I am basically her. Only the difference is, I am not cynical about love, my friends have not made me purchase horrendous dresses, and I have had a blast being involved in so many of my good friends' weddings. In less than one year, I have had the privilege to be the Matron of Honor in Nicole's wedding, a bridesmaid in Jessie's wedding, and now co-Matron of Honor in Merissa's wedding. I wonder who will be next... Mo, perhaps??? (Just joking, but seriously...)

Anyway, this past weekend was the first of several upcoming Merissa-wedding-extravaganzas and it was a blast. First of all, it was a beautiful day- the sun was shining and the flowers are finally blooming. It was also nice to meet a lot of her family, and Merissa was so happy all day long :) I can't wait for all of the upcoming events to come around, especially the bachelorette weekend (get ready Merissa, Mo and I have some good stuff coming your way...) and of course, the grand finale on July 10th. Here's to love, marriage, and all of the parties that come along with it!!!

Merissa with her soon-to-be in-laws

FYI- If Merissa gives you a crockpot anytime in the next 10 years, there is a strong to very strong chance it is a regift item...

The talented Amanda Crawford: shower hostess, bridesmaid, sister-in-law, and creator of the "Hot Seat" w/ Brandon (see background), which was a BIG hit

The beaming bride and her mama... she looks so happy :)

Pretty, pretty flowers

SUCH a beautiful day in the NW (that is the Puget Sound, BTW)

The view from Merissa's grandma's house is not too shabby...

The only time in a picture Merissa's head has EVER been bigger than mine... well, almost

Ok, ok... here's a "nice" picture

Gotta love those Mamas...

Mother's Day Weekend was a flurry of family and fun for us. We spent most of the weekend with the Newton side of the family at a cabin we rented near Mt. Hood, and had dinner with the Joy family on Sunday night en route back to Seattle. Here is a brief breakdown of the weekend...

Saturday:
Two hikes, three dogs, FIVE servings of dessert (no, that is not a typo, crazy I know...), and eight and a half kids/grandkids (see pics of Jessie below) celebrating Mama Newton. That pretty much sums up the day. We went on two hikes because the first one, a trail around Mirror Lake, was still completely covered in snow, and to be honest quite miserable. I wish I could tell you that we were smart enough to turn around and find another hike 5 minutes into the trail, but for some reason we decided to persevere and endure it. Needless to say, the hike resulted in a lost dog (Jeb was eventually found), seven pairs of soaking wet feet, and one very unhappy four year old boy. Jessie, Luke, Joe, and I decided to go for a second round of hiking (after Round 3 of dessert, a decadent dipped cone from Dairy Queen) this time on dry land. We hiked the Castle Canyon trail, scrambling our way to the tops of rocky spires and cool lookout points. It was a pretty sweet hike, and we were glad to return to the cabin with dry feet and all 3 dogs in tow.

Sporting my sweet hiking outfit and squinty eyes (not because I am Chinese, because I have no shades and it was BRIGHT)

3 of the awesomest dogs I know (yeah, I said awesomest)

Why is it so fun to take pics of preggos?!

Jonas, immediately regretting the fact that we forgot our sunglasses

"We are kind of like the Donner party out here"... very comforting words Jessie (BTW- that is Mirror Lake in the background of the photo. Don't see it? Maybe that's because it's COVERED in snow)

A group of hikers we ran into, with snowshoes... they might be slightly smarter than us

G.O. and Tre, happy that the hike is OVER

Tre and I found these flowers on our "photo shoot" walk... I have no idea what they are called, but I love them- they look like little hearts!

Please don't hate me for posting this one Jessie, I just love that belly!

Hiking is SO much better on dry land

Sunday:
After making a nice Mother's Day breakfast, we headed off to Ski Bowl for customer appreciation day. It was the last day of the season and lift tickets were FREE for everyone. The weather was super warm and sunny, which made for poor skiing conditions, but who cares when it doesn't cost a dime?! Actually, I was grateful for the warm weather because Joe, who was in charge of packing the ski equipment, forgot our gloves, goggles, and snowpants. Thus, we sported sweatpants and t-shirts (we keep it classy) and scrounged some extra goggles and gloves from Jessie and the Neal family. We only skiied for a few hours (by 1 pm the conditions were downright dreadful), but it was a fun way to spend 1/2 a day, the price was right, and I continued to work on my skiing capabilities- black diamonds the whole day, go me!

About to take the plunge

Looking classy in our sweatpants

Mt. Hood is kinda purty

These were my options: Black Diamonds or Double Black Diamonds... I might've fallen countless times, but I am pretty darn proud of how far I've come in one year!

Girls just want to have fun...

I am in perpetual bridesmaid mode and loving it. The first of my closest friends to get married, I am currently a bridesmaid for the (wait for it...) THIRD time in the last year. First was Nicole, next came Jessie, and now Merissa. This weekend I spent some quality time with my two bestest friends from college- Merissa and Mo. Merissa's wedding dress arrived, so we went to the dress shop to try it on and she looked amazing :) We spent the rest of the day working on invitations, eating/talking, and entertaining ourselves in Merissa's grandparents ridiculously huge, awesome, and RANDOM house! Here are some pics of the big events, and please don't judge us, we are VERY easily entertained...

"Oh no, what do I do?! What do I do?!", exclaimed Mo.

Mo, we love you but you are an awful barista

Mo LOVES goats, so we decided to get a "buddy shot" (Take #1)

In case you didn't know, I am ginormous

Yippie I yay, mini-sirloin burgers...

These shoes were made for walking...

When it comes to a good pair of running shoes, I swear by Asics. I have had these shoes since 2005, and they have served me well. They have never given me any blisters and are oh-so comfy. In fact, they fit me so perfectly I continue to wear them despite the large, gaping holes that started to appear a few months back. I estimate that these shoes have been with me for about 3,000 miles of running, hiking, and walking. Sadly, I think it might be time to retire these bad boys and spring for a new pair. This is something I have been struggling with for a long time, but it must be done... and soon. The hardest part? I haven't had to pay for a pair of running shoes for myself since I was in high school. Throughout college, I received 2 pairs of running shoes a year (courtesy OSU women's soccer), and I won my beloved pair of Asics with a "Free Shoe" coupon in a fun run raffle in 2005. I have stretched them out for as long as possible, but it is getting borderline ridiculous... I have gone to various stores (Joe's closing sale, Big 5, etc.) and tried on several pairs, but I am so damn cheap I hate to spend $100+ on a pair of shoes that will eventually look like this:

Alas, I realize it is time to bite the bullet and just do it. Until then, here are some pics from my last hiking trip EVER with my beloved Asics. (FYI- this is us hiking Mt. Si a couple of weeks back).
